FOR MANY OF US, THIS IS VERY HARD TO DO. ONCE WE START OPENING UP TO HOW WE FEEL, WE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT WE NEED. THEN, WE CAN USE OUR EMOTIONS & NEEDS AS A SPRINGBOARD TO COMMUNICATING ASSERTIVELY, ASKING FOR WHAT WE WANT, SETTING SOLID BOUNDARIES, AND MOVING CLOSER TO GETTING WHAT WE TRULY WANT OUT OF LIFE

"TRUE" ASSERTIVENESS MEANS BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE HOW YOU FEEL, AND/OR WHAT YOU NEED, IN A HELPFUL, CONSTRUCTIVE AND SPECIFIC WAY, IN THE MOMENT, WITHOUT BOTTLING THINGS UP AND INEVITABLY BUILDING RESENTMENT, OR EXPLODING AGGRESSIVELY, AVOIDING OTHERS, OR ACTING OUT AFTER BOTTLING THINGS UP FOR TOO LONG. ANYONE CAN BE ASSERTIVE WHEN IT'S EASY. BUT IN TOUGHER SITUATIONS THAT REALLY COUNT, ASSERTIVENESS GOES OUT THE WINDOW. THAT'S BECAUSE TRUE ASSERTIVENESS STARTS WITH A BELIEF SHIFT, AND IS BACKED UP BY EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. YOU CAN READ A SCRIPT ANYWHERE FOR "WHAT" TO SAY, BUT IN SITUATIONS THAT REALLY MATTER, ALL THOSE SCRIPTS SEEM TO DISAPPEAR. CONSIDER THOSE PEOPLE YOU LOOK UP TO MOST, AND WHY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MORE LIKE THEM. USUALLY, WHAT YOU'RE ADMIRING IS THEIR SKILL IN TRUE ASSERTIVENESS 

THE NUMBER ONE LIMITATION PEOPLE HAVE TO ATTAINING SUCCESS, IS A LACK OF SELF-BELIEF. SELF-BELIEF MEANS BELIEVING IN YOUR ABILITY TO DO ANYTHING. IT IS DEVELOPED USING SPECIFIC EXERCISES, AS WELL AS BY ASSERTING YOURSELF WHEN IT COUNTS.
